Since her debut, readers have constantly related to Kitty Pryde; As such, he has become a Marvel icon on several levels. Nothing emphasizes Kitty’s growth more than pairing her with her own wide-eyed youth. Trista is not an exact parallel to Kitty; Trista already knows she’s a mutant, for example, and seems to have a strong grasp on her gift (turning into metal). Rather, it’s the ease with which Kitty steps into her mentor role as she shepherds Trista to safety that shows how far she’s come, away from Trista’s wide-eyed neophyte and role as the mysterious X-Man. There’s even a joke about Kitty being out of touch with the current younger generation, Emphasizing his role as an older and established teacher.
As of this writing, it has been 44 years since Kitty Pryde made her first appearance. While the usual sliding scale of Marvel’s timeline makes it hard to tell how many years it’s been in the universe since Kitty debuted, there’s something heartwarming and bittersweet about seeing someone who was once the youngest member of the X-Men.
