To others is a stellar group with so much to offer so many different types of fans. Of course there is the metal aspect. There are loud, distorted, guitars, great speed and the right attitude. But on top of that, for those of us who love goth and pop music, this band really scratches the itch.
I’m a big fan of bands like that Sisters of Mercy, Distress, Love and rockets and of course Type O Negative. As such, I’ve been following this band since the early days when they were known as Idle hands. Their first record manna it was intriguing. It was followed with the mighty Strength. Never, NeverlandIt’s actually their best yet, though.
The band took a more collaborative approach on this record with a lead vocalist and guitarist Gabriel Franco letting go of the reins a little. Also, a bass guitar Brandon Hill adds backup vocals for the first time in the band’s history. Franco calls this new record “The Best Thing We’ve Ever Done.” He is not wrong. This record really shows a lot of evolution in a short time.
“Momma Likes the Door Closed” is a solid rocker with massive riffs, bombastic drums and a West Hollywood-style growl. There is a touch Inconsistencies and: Danzig in this cut too. The band, however, can slow down and strip it down as well with songs like the ballad “Night Angel” and the slightly pop-inspired “Suicide Today” and the more upbeat “Sun” that will make you sign off right. along
“Butterfly” isn’t just an amazing song and an 80s goth cult. It’s obviously original enough to stand on its own, with passion and brevity for the music. Such a well-crafted track, the band also gives us this dreamy, post-modern video Zev deans.
Other songs I love on this record are the rousing “When the Kids Get Caught,” the poignant, fast-paced “Flatline,” and the quiet and darkly beautiful “Cold World.” “Raigeki” also has a very memorable and innovative guitar solo.
There’s a lot of variety on this record. To others can speed it up and out then turn on dram and become emotionally sentimental and slow. With an astonishing 16 tracks Never, Neverlandyou’d be hard-pressed to find even a second filler. Quite simply, every song on this record is breathtakingly impressive.
All in all, there’s been a lot of hype about this band, really since day one. Breathability is definitely guaranteed. To others is a group of very talented individuals and they give us some of the best music in Portland Agalok.
Perhaps the perfect record for the Halloween season, Never, Neverland! Simply one of the best LPs of 2024. Sometimes it’s heavy, at others it’s mellow and contemplative. Just the perfect blend.
