The nominees for Best Alternative Music Performance at the 2024 Grammy Awards are Alvvays, Arctic Monkeys, Boygenius, Lana Del Rey, and Paramore. Alvvays’ nomination—their first ever at the Grammys—is for their song “Belinda Says” from Blue Rev. Arctic Monkeys’ “Body Paint” appears on The Car, while Paramore’s “This Is Why” is the title track off their latest record. Those songs are up against Lana Del Rey’s Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd standout “A&W” and Boygenius’ “Cool About It.” Last year, was the first time that the Recording Academy handed out a Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Performance, and it went to Wet Leg for “Chaise Lounge.”
Arctic Monkeys were also recognized in the Best Alternative Music Album bunch, for The Car, as well as Best Rock Performance, for “Sculptures of Anything Goes.” Boygenius swept a number of categories, with seven nominations total including Album of the Year and Best Alternative Music Album for The Record and Record of the Year for their single “Not Strong Enough.”
Lana Del Rey picked up five nominations, including her Jon Batiste duet “Candy Necklace,” which is in the running Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd will also compete for Album of the Year and Best Alternative Music Album, while “A&W” is up for Song of the Year. In addition to their Best Alternative Music Performance nod, Paramore’s This Is Why will be considered for Best Rock Album.
