New Hulu/FX limited series American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez Re-examines one of the most exciting off-field true stories in National Football League history. American Sports Story The first drama series to tackle the Odin Lloyd murders since Aaron Hernandez’s true-crime story and Netflix’s in-depth docuseries The killer inside. Created by Stuart Zickerman (the americans) and executive produced by Ryan Murphy (American Horror Story), American Sports Story There will be 10 episodes with new weekly episodes released every Tuesday From September 17 to November 12, 2024.
Josh Andres Rivera leads the cast American Sports Story Aaron Hernandez. Episode 1 “If It’s To Be” chronicles Hernandez’s tough upbringing in Bristol, Connecticut, while Episode 2 “Consequences, With Extreme Prejudice” dives into his collegiate career at the University of Florida. Although the series is based on a true story and features dozens of actors portraying real-life players, coaches, friends and family members who knew Aaron Hernandez, The series takes some creative liberties for drama. It is said that several real-life events are depicted there American Sports Story which are based on factual accounts, witness testimony and headline news reports.

American Sports Story presents Hernandez’s attempted assassination of Alexander Bradley as fact
Its opening scene American Sports Story Aaron Hernandez is pictured shooting Alexander “Sherrod” Bradley in the head with a gun point blank as he sleeps in his car. Sherrod is a man from South Florida who knew Aaron when he was playing for the New England Patriots in the NFL. The scene plays out as it is American Sports Story It coincides with Sherrod’s testimony during a 2017 trial for a double-murder case in Boston. Sherrod was granted immunity to appear as a witness and testify against Aaron. Otherwise he would have sat right next to him in the defense.
As seen on Netflix The killer inside In the document, celebrity lawyer Jose Baez, who was defending Hernandez at the time, presented a text message that Sherrod sent to his attorney. The text revealed that Sherrod didn’t really remember who shot him in Florida and focused on whether he would be convicted of perjury after the truth was revealed. This evidence proved to the jury that Hernandez did not actually try to kill Sherrod and appeared to be trying to get revenge on Hernandez, thereby acquitting him of the double murder.

Almost everything about the scene is actually based on multiple news reports and even police records, except A few key details in the ordeal and superstar quarterback Tim Tebow’s role. Hernandez refused to pay the $12 bill, thinking the drink had already been paid for, and punched the drunk bartender in the left side of the head. Tebow said he asked Hernandez to leave and offered to pay the bill“
In American Sports StoryTebow is much less involved, only sticking around to thank Huntley Johnson, the Florida Gators’ unofficial attorney/fixer, before exiting the frame. Police records show Hernandez and Tebow called Urban Meyer himself and asked for help after running and hiding next to the bar. That seems to be how Huntley Johnson got to the scene. There is also no record of Hernandez’s fight with the security guard Either, as Hernandez is shown punching a bouncer at a bar. In both reality and American Sports Story, Hernandez was never arrested or charged with battery even though the bartender claimed he had a ruptured eardrum.
American Sports Story Cam called Newton the scapegoat who handed out the harshest punishment to several players, including Hernandez, after they were arrested or implicated in various crimes. In reality, Newton was dismissed from the Gators after receiving a felony charge of stealing a laptop but decided to transfer voluntarily. According to ESPN, Cam Newton was arrested in 2008 on charges of theft, larceny and obstruction of justice and ultimately transferred to another college just three days before the Gators won the national championship. In an unlikely turn of events, Newton would go on to the Heisman Trophy and lead the Auburn Tigers to a national championship Victory after just two years.
DJ Hernandez wasn’t relegated to UConn’s starting quarterback role because Aaron went to Florida.
American Sports Story Indicating that DJ Hernandez, Aaron’s older brother who was the UConn Huskies’ starting quarterback in 2006, was at risk of being punished by head coach Randy Edsall when Aaron chose to go to Florida after committing to UConn. In the series, Coach gives DJ an ultimatumIndicates that it will be challenging to keep Aaron as the starting QB if he is not a Husky. According to Yukon’s website, DJ Hernandez “Unselfishly volunteered to move from quarterback to wide receiver during the spring” of the 2007 season and would become one of their most productive wide receivers
Urban Meyer claims he never encouraged Haron Hernandez to graduate from high school
American Sports Story Florida Gators head coach Urban Meyer pictured meeting with Terry Hernandez and the principal of Bristol Central High School at Hernandez’s home. In the scene, Meyer made it clear that he believes Aaron will benefit greatly from graduating high school to come down to Gainesville and adapt to the playbook and program.
According to The Boston Globe, “Meyer said he didn’t recall meeting Hernandez’s high school principal and “never pushed anybody” to graduate high school early, though he sees it as a positive jump-start to college for many recruits.” Additionally, the Boston Globe reported that Meyer “Hernandez downplayed his role in bringing him to Florida, saying it was mostly the work of his assistant coach Addazio and that he was “involved in the back half of the recruitment.”“

The scene seems to have been added to include the theme of Aaron’s closeted homosexuality and how it contributed to his identity and anger issues.
