Chicano Batman, the Los Angeles band that formed in 2008 and fused psych-rock with Tropicália and indie rock on their next five studio albums, have announced they are going on an “indefinite hiatus” after completing their upcoming shows. The band did not give a specific reason for the hiatus, but thanked fans for helping them build a community.

“Chicano Batman family, it’s been an incredible year,” they said in a statement posted on Instagram. “Thank you for believing in us. We love you and this movement you’ve built around our music. When this year is over, Chicano Batman will be on an indefinite hiatus. Let’s celebrate the past 16 years of music together in Mexico next week and in California in October and November. With much LOVE, always.”

In 2010, Chicano Batman released his debut album to rave reviews that only grew with subsequent LPs; In 2014 Existential Rhyme Cycles2017 Freedom is Freeand 2020s Invisible people. During their run, Chicano Batman brought their music to international tours and television screens with their late-night debut. The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. They also performed on NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert series, and in 2021, frontman Bardo Martinez also released his debut solo album.

Earlier this year, Chicano Batman released his latest studio album, Notebook Fantasy. According to their farewell post, they will be playing a few shows this fall before putting the band to rest. Chicano Batman’s final live concert is scheduled for November 3rd in Ventura, California.
