Apparently, before Australian-American country star Keith Urban became famous for his unique pop brand of country music, Urban: originally covered in heavy metal. In the last interview The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon reported about it LoudspeakerUrban revealed that in his younger days he played guitar in a metal band called Fractured Mirror, named after the instrumental track that closes former Kiss guitarist Ace Fraley’s 1978 solo album.
Urban: On the show, he said that although he grew up mostly listening to country music, he got into Iron Maiden when he was 15 or 16, which led to him joining Fractured Mirror as a guitarist. But it was also then Urban: became interested in bluegrass music Ricky Skaggs and his “chicken picking” style clashed with what Fractured Mirror was trying to do.
“All of a sudden I’m in it and I’m in this band and we’re doing this Saxon song,” Urban said in an interview. “They throw me solo and I pick chicken. The singer looks around, “What?” They fired me.”
Urban: didn’t explain what happened to Fractured Mirror after he was allegedly fired for choosing a chicken Saxon cover. Loudspeaker noted that there is a group out of Indiana by that name, though the likelihood that it’s the group Urban was talking about is extremely low. Except that the members of that broken mirror look a little younger than they were around 1983 when Urban: would be the age mentioned in his story. Moreover, Urban: would still be living in Australia at the time he was in the broken mirror. It would have been a nice addition to his story to find out that Fractured Mirror succeeded without Urban, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.
