Dan Jurgens and Ron Marges Zero Hour 30th Anniversary Special #1 Green Lantern transports Kyle Renner—more accurately, Wally West’s Flash-napped—into an alternate timeline completely different from his own. In this strange new world, the parallax-infected Hal Jordan has created a reality where his beloved coastal town survived its original destruction by the cyborg Superman. However, in saving Coast City, Hal’s actions lead to vastly different outcomes and consequences for key events in the DCU, with an aftereffect of The emergence of Supergirl, Batgirl and the former Wonder Girl as DC’s new trinity.
Supergirl, Wonder Girl and Batgirl become the new trinity of the Justice League
Wonder Woman and Superman die in a parallax-made universe, while Batman never recovers from Bane.
In addition to Kyle, fans quickly discover that Barbara Gordon, Kara Zor-El, and Donna Troy are the main heroes of the Parallax-created world, stepping up after the death or incapacitation of their mentors. In this alternate universe, its events unfold Batman: Nightfall Still happened, but with a vastly different result. In contrast to Kyle’s universe, Bruce Wayne never recovered from his encounter with Ben, eventually giving up and becoming a recluse. Additionally, a passing comment reveals that Dick Grayson is now the city’s police commissioner. So, Batgirl’s role as Gotham’s primary—if not only—Bat is clear.
Likewise, it’s revealed that a key event in Superman’s history has also been altered in this parallax-created world: Death of Superman. Fans know that in this story, Superman fought and fell to Doomsday, but eventually returned. However, in this alternate universe, Clark never returned, having been permanently killed by the creature, leaving Supergirl as the sole defender of Metropolis. Similarly, it is revealed with limited details that Diana Prince was also killed, prompting Donna Troy to step in as the new Wonder Woman.
Supergirl, Batgirl and Donna Troy are DC’s best next-gen trinity line-up
Unpopular opinion, but Supergirl and Batgirl are DC’s strongest candidates to replace Batman and Superman
Supergirl, Batgirl, and Donna Troy form an exceptionally strong lineup as DC’s next-generation trinity. Each of these long-established characters has served as a direct mentor to the hero they’re replacing, making their rise to the role a natural fit. While some may argue that there are many male successors worthy of being Batman’s primary replacement, most of Bruce’s sons have developed their own distinct hero personas and show little desire to be. “The Next Batman.” Damian Wayne, though a notable exception, is still quite young and might be better suited as the next generation Dark Knight. Thus, Batgirl – whether Barbara Gordon or Cassandra Cain – emerges as a top candidate to replace Batman.
On the other hand, there are John and Connor Kent as successors to Superman, even though John has already taken on the role of Man of Steel. Despite their popularity and widespread affection, These characters are not as established as Supergirl and lack the same impact and wow-factor as Kara and Clarke. Furthermore, the personal history between Supergirl and Superman makes their bond more developed than Clark’s relationship with his own son. While there is a strong argument that Batman and Superman should be succeeded by their sons, it seems more appropriate on both a historical and emotional level to replace Clark and Bruce with Supergirl and Batgirl.
