The Green Lantern’s new power ring is an Old God’s Willpower
In Green Lantern: War Journal #11 By Philip Kennedy Johnson, Montos, Adriano Lucas and Dave Sharpe, John Dark travels through the Star of the Fens and is captured by Olgrun. When Olgrun recreates Jon’s physical form with the Old God’s tainted light, Jon rekindles Olgrun’s memories and bonds with Olgrun’s family, including his daughter, Queen Azna. However, Olgrun’s brother and fellow Green Lantern Byla-Ash psychically communicates with John and warns him that Olgrun is close to turning Green Lantern into Olgrun’s personal vessel.

Out of fantasy, the dying Azna begs John to help her find Byla so they can destroy her gravity storm and allow Olgrun’s power to spread throughout the rest of the DC Universe. Thankfully, Jon is still in control and shakes off the corrupting light that Olgrun casts on him. Green Lantern reveals that he entered the Dark Star to learn about it and the Necropolis that once stood in its place. Now he knows how everything is connected, Green Lantern escapes with the Dark Star Ring still on his finger.
Outside the Dark Star, Byla and the other survivors run for their lives as the Radiant Host attacks them. However, Jon emerges from the Dark Star and uses his godlike powers to rebuild the Necropolis, which was destroyed millennia ago. A fierce Ajna appears to Green Lantern, Tells him that the Dark Star Ring is an aspect of his father, specifically Olgrun’s Willpower. Azna vows to retrieve the ring, but before she can mount her attack, John is joined by Guy Gardner and Caolan Shepherd. With two power rings in hand, the Green Lantern prepares for his final stand.

Once upon a time, Olgrun was the most powerful god of all time, and he was able to create the most beautiful worlds and kingdoms. However, tragedy struck Olgrun’s world when his brother, Bjoltor, tricked Olgrun into killing his daughter. Olgrun was consumed with rage and went mad, killing everything in his path. The Old Gods battled Olgrun and defeated them, but they could not kill him due to his overwhelming strength. The Green Lanterns were kidnapped and trapped outside the Dark Star, where Olgrun resided. Jon meets Baila, who informs him that the Dark Star was born from Queen Azna’s ring. without any other means, The Green Lanterns infiltrate the Dark Star, attempt to take the Ring, and end Olgrun’s threat for good..
What does having an aspect of Olgrun mean for the Green Lanterns?
The last person to try and claim the Dark Star Ring was an ancient Malthusian whose body was ultimately nothing more than a puppet for Olgrun to control. But that was because the ring embodied Olgrun’s willpower, and if there’s one thing Jon Stewart has in abundance, it’s willpower. Green Lantern has proven that he is worthy of the Dark Star Ring And all the power that comes with it. Jon is already the strongest active Green Lantern, but Olgrun’s will power more than puts him over the top.
But if the aspects are found by an unworthy person, Olgrun will be reborn and the Dark Ages will begin.
