Not only does the cosplay recreate the iconic color scheme and logo of Spider-Man’s black suit, it also has a fat The texture (in the most complimentary way) mimics the gooey symbiote itself. Apart from @maffhewdc’s maskplate, Parkhill himself is responsible for the suit. Meanwhile, the digital editing of the photos was done by @wens.1998, whose addition of mood lighting in classic Spidey reds and blues pushes the piece to the next level.

Something that the symbiote suit illustrates is how important color is to our perception of characters; Without his red and blue colors, Spider-Man becomes cold and emotionless in the black suit, until he becomes terrifying. I’ve always felt that the symbiote does something inhuman to its hosts face, even before it shoots out a big ‘ol venom mass full of teeth. Parkhill’s cosplay nails the sense of menace before the symbiote attacks, and adds atmospheric details to enhance the menace of the suit, as well as leaning into it with the aforementioned Spidey lighting.
Spider-Man recently re-bonded with the Venom symbiote to battle Venom – A battle between the former host of the symbiote, Eddie Brock, and the new wearer, Dylan Brock Both symbiote heroes have seen scenes where they become a cosmic menace if the others keep the suit, prompting them to battle their respective symbiote allies for ownership. Seeing how it has destroyed the lives of both its beloved hosts, the Venom symbiote leaves Dylan and returns to the one person who definitely won’t want to keep it for long – Peter Parker’s Spider-Man. However, rather than simply recreating Spider-Man’s original black suit, the new design carries over some elements of Dylan Brock’s redesign as Venom, including Chain-like webbing and a logo stretch across the shoulder.

Originally a Spider-Man villain due to his origins, Venom evolved into an antihero, battling both villains and his own dark impulses. While Peter’s original tenure with the symbiote suit wasn’t actually that long by the comics standards of the day, his time with it only gained more significance with each retcon and symbiote lore. During this time there have been many subsequent miniseries detailing unseen adventures with the symbiote, Adventures with Deadpool and four miniseries from author Peter David’s Fantastic Four, featuring the unseen missions of the symbiote Spider-Man. While I’m not personally a huge fan of miniseries that rehash new adventures for nostalgia’s sake, I still get that the suit is pretty cool, of course Creators want to create new stories around looks.
