Batman: Beyond the White Knight A dilapidated, dystopian Gotham may appear, but all hope is not lost as many heroes emerge to challenge the duplicitous government, including a brand new woman. robin. Gann was DC’s first female Robin in a long time, and I hope they remember her going forward.

in Batman: The White Knight Presents – The Red HoodSean Murphy, Clayton McCormack, Simone De Meo, George Cambadice, Dave Stewart and Andworld Design, Jason Todd, after his run in with the Joker, were actually trained. Her Own Robin: A young woman named Gunn, who tries to stop crime with her own hands and a bicycle. Eventually, Gann earned his own proper Robin costume and his place among Gotham’s vigilantes, and I really wish DC hadn’t walked away from him so quickly.

Set between Jason’s time as Robin and his re-emergence into Bruce’s life, the series shows Jason struggling with commitment, moving from job to job, before finally running into music while drunk. Despite their rough start, Jason readily agreed to train her. She walked out of his life after realizing that the instincts he instilled in her were more dangerous than caution. Although most Robin costumes are of their time, The suite of songs directly references his heritageFrom design to function. Gan says to Jason Batman: The White Knight Presents – The Red Hood #1 that both his belt and his tunic belonged to his grandfather. Other than Damian Wayne’s Robin costume, Gann is one of the few Gotham heroes to incorporate his culture into his heroics, bringing a personal touch to a chaotic legacy.

I think these cultural touches are a brilliant way to differentiate his character and add some distinction to the Robin suit. Gan later trades his bike and grappling hook for upgraded arrows and his grandfather’s bow, Bringing traditional weaponry to a high-strung, high-tech war.

But the custom wasn’t just about technology. from the beginning, Gann came out of Gotham’s old roster Really want to protect the parts of the city that Batman neglects. That value is at the core of his character. The song’s use of traditional and cultural weaponry and advanced technology creates a contrast between the characters, which helps distinguish the song from a more warped Gotham. He is a new character Needs to be separated from other robins All in all, in a powerful way, Gunn’s character is a bright light in a dark storyline, and I hope DC remembers him going forward.

It’s about time DC invested in non-male robins

Batman definitely has a style

After the New 52 ends, DC Robin and Batgirl resolve a conflict over who should hold the title. Assigning name ownership to multiple characters At the same time though it reduced the storylines by focusing entirely on the legacy, it also kept any new characters from getting the spotlight. Gan is proof that new Robins – and Batgirls – can still be introduced without other characters (or fans) feeling illegitimate.

Other non-male Robins in the DC Multiverse include (but are not limited to) Stephanie Brown, Carrie Kelly, and most recently, Maps Mizoguchi!

There are plenty Ways to revive Robin’s legacy without taking away anyone else’s sense of belongingLike bringing personal culture into custom. Gann didn’t ask permission to carry the Robin name, nor did he hesitate to put his own spin on it. He doesn’t need it. The story of the song may be involved Batman: White Knightof Jason Todd, but his development when he joined Batman: Beyond the White Knight was entirely his own.

There are more Robin stories to tell from a different perspective than the Robins that came before.

Gann’s decision to give the Robin logo and costume without keeping Batman in his life. This decision not only resonated with the existing characters around him — who already have a lot of DC lore attached to them — but also gave Gunn a chance to make a real impact. I think DC could do a great job of telling more non-male Robin stories should the right moment present itself. Robin War — a crossover event from multiple creators featuring the likes of Nightwing, Red Hood, Damian Wayne, and more — proved that anyone can carry the symbol, but DC has yet to really make good on that realization. This is something that should change as DC moves forward. Gunn’s character was a first for DC – especially in terms of different character designs – but there’s no denying that his new approach to the Robin legacy has revitalized an increasingly stale heroic tradition.

As a newly minted Robin and an adult with life experience to boot, Song has a lot to offer in the character’s future storyin both Batman: White Knight universe, which has subtly teased a fourth volume, and if DC reintroduces him to the main universe. Also, non-male robins are few and far between. There are more Gotham citizens who deserve a hero to represent them on the roof. Archery may not be Batman’s style, but Gann has already proven that he doesn’t need anything to be Batman robin.
