On Friday night (September 13), Jane’s Addiction cut short a show in Boston after frontman Perry Farrell assaulted guitarist Dave Navarro on stage. The band apologized and canceled Sunday night’s concert in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Jane’s Addiction has now canceled the rest of their North American tour and will be taking some time off.

In a statement, Dave Navarro, bassist Eric Avery and drummer Stephen Perkins said they were canceling the tour due to Pharrell’s “continued behavioral and mental health issues.” “Our concern for his personal health and safety, as well as our own, has left us with no choice. We hope he will find the help he needs.”

In an additional statement, all four members of Jane’s Addictions said they had “made the difficult decision to take some time off as a band.” Find both statements below.

Farrell also said: “This weekend has been incredibly difficult and after having time and space to reflect, it’s only right that I apologize to my bandmates, especially Dave Navarro, fans, family and friends for my actions at Friday’s show. Unfortunately, my breaking point was reached inexcusable behavior and I take full responsibility for how I chose to handle the situation.”

The morning after the incident, Perry Farrell’s wife, Etty Lou Farrell, offered some context for the apparent fight between her husband and Dave Navarro. “, he wrote. “Well, the dynamite was lit. Perry got up on Dave’s face and body checked him.”

Farrell continued. “Perry’s frustration grew, night after night, he felt the stage volume was too loud and his voice was drowned out by the band. Perry suffered from tinnitus and sore throat every night. But when the front-row audience started complaining to Perry, cursing her for the band being too loud and that they couldn’t hear her, Perry lost it.”

He added: “Perry was a mad beast for the next half hour; he did not calm down at last, but broke down and wept and wept.”

Dave Navarro, Eric Avery and Stephen Perkins.

Due to our singer Perry Farrell’s ongoing pattern of behavior and mental health issues, we have come to the conclusion that we have no choice but to cancel the current US tour.

Out of concern for his personal health and safety, as well as ours, we have no choice but to hope that he will find the help he needs.

We deeply regret not being able to accommodate all of our fans who have already purchased tickets. We cannot see any solution that will either provide a safe environment on stage or reliably allow us to put on a great show on a nightly basis.

Our hearts are broken.
Dave, Eric and Steven
