Jeff Barrow is leaving Beak> the band he founded in 2009 after Portishead released. Third. The band will wrap up their upcoming European and North American tours before Barrow continues to rest his “bad ankle” and focus on other projects, including his debut full-length later this year. The band added in a statement that “Beak> In terms of future activity there is still life in the old dog but we need time to mourn our Jeff. New music and activity will come when the time is right be”.
Barrow said: “About 16 years ago, 3 like-minded musical strangers got together in the studio to make music, and they didn’t care if anyone heard it. After 4 albums and hundreds of shows around the world, it was over It’s the happiest musical journey I’ve ever experienced… In life, you know when it’s time to call it quits, and now it’s my time.”
Swapping Portishead’s relatively pop structures for more exploratory, space-inspired jams, Barrow released four albums with Beak>, the first self-titled and each subsequent one marked by an additional symbol. The trio also released additional releases, such as a 2015 split EP with them and a song for the TV show. HannahOne of Burrow’s many TV and film subjects with Ben Salisbury. In a statement, Burrow added that he’s looking forward to a new role as “Beak>’s goofy and musically inept A&R personality at Invada.”
