Warning: Contains spoilers for Incredible Hulk Annual 2024 #1!Thanos Probably the greatest villain in the Marvel Universe, not just because he’s so powerful and has rocked the entire universe on multiple occasions, but because he really loves murder and mayhem. However, this shouldn’t suggest that Thanos can’t be defeated, or even redeemed, as Marvel Comics has just named a hero who has what it takes to do so.
in The Incredible Hulk Annual 2024 #1 by Derek Landy and Geoff Shaw, Thanos hunts down a new Stone Bearer, as he hopes to reclaim all of the Infinity Stones and become all-powerful. This is the latest addition to the ongoing comic Infinity Watch SagaA story that is being told across a number Annual 2024 In the comics, the Mind Stone finds a bearer, and imbues the person with god-level telepathic powers – and his name is Worldmind.
When Thanos finds the Worldmind, the Stone Bearer hits Thanos with a mind attack so powerful that it drops the Mad Titan to his knees. Worldmind explains that the only reason Thanos hunts the Infinity Stones – and why he’s a villain at all – is his childhood trauma. Therefore, Worldmind stated that he would alter Thanos’ childhood memories, erasing that trauma and thereby rebuilding who Thanos is at a fundamental level, defeating and possibly rescuing him in the process.
The Mind Stone itself is the 1 ‘hero’ who can defeat Thanos
Each Infinity Stone is intentionally containing a heroic ‘host’, making the stones themselves heroes
Worldmind’s plan to take down Thanos is a difficult one, as the Mad Titan is completely immobilized while the god-level psychic is rooted around his mind. Unfortunately, Thanos mustered the strength to snap out of it and killed Worldmind before the hero could finish the job. But, not working this time doesn’t mean it can’t work in the future, especially if the Mind Stone chooses a powerful telepath as its host.
If someone like Charles Xavier, Emma Frost, or Jean Gray were imbued with the power of the Mind Stone (rather than someone like Worldmind, who only became a telepath once possessed of the stone), it’s a fair assumption that they would be able to where the Worldmind fails. Have to be successful there. They would already possess a masterful understanding of telepathic powers, and with the cosmic upgrade of the Mind Stone, they could potentially change everything about Thanos in a second.
Infinity Stones as heroes is a great idea to have

Infinity Watch Saga
Details on the origin of the Infinity Stones as legitimate Marvel Comics heroes!
A great aspect of this ‘one hero’ that can take down Thanos is that the hero himself is the Mind Stone, especially since the same is true of the other Infinity Stones. These sentient cosmic artifacts are deliberately choosing heroes to inhabit, and when these heroes come together as a team, their individual powers grow exponentially. The Infinity Stones are used by heroes and villains alike, seemingly without a say in the matter. Now, Marvel Comics is giving them a voice, and they’ve decided to become cosmic heroes — and it’s such a great idea.
Infinity Watch has the opportunity to be the greatest team of heroes in the Marvel Universe, powered and guided by the sentient Infinity Stones. Only time will tell how their story plays out, but in the short term, it looks like one of Infinity Watch’s heroes, the Mind Stone, has already figured out how to defeat (and even redeem) Thanos It may just be finding a good host to actually get the job done – permanently.
