How did Matthew McConaughey find the love of his life, Camila Alves? Oh, you know, just through a wet dream!
Us Weekly reported the Dallas Buyers Club actor made the confession in his newsletter, Lyrics of Living, on Friday. He explained:
“In my mid-30s, I was looking for a lifetime lover, a best friend, and a mother-to-be. I was looking for more, I was looking for the one, I was looking for her. Then I had a wet dream.”

And yes, he gave details. It is bizarre, Perezcious readers. Matthew shared that in the dream, he saw an older version of himself in a rocking chair on the porch of his home. According to the star, there were 22 women, 22 vehicles, and 88 children — having fathered one child for each year of his life. Jeez. However, he didn’t marry any of the 22 women. He said they were all only gathered to celebrate his 88th birthday, adding:
“Each woman was serene and satisfied. Every child was smiling, laughing, and healthy. We all knew one another very well. Each mother and I shared an idyllic memory, the children roosted upon my lap. We hugged, we kissed, we laughed and joked, we cried tears of happiness. They all gathered around me on the porch for a family photograph, and we looked toward a large-format box camera on a tripod at the top of the driveway. Three! Two! One! Then I came.”
WTF???
It’s so odd, right?! However, the Oscar winner thought it was a “beautiful dream” that gave him an important lesson. He said the vision reminded him he wanted to become a father, but also helped him realize he would be fine with not immediately settling down. Matthew continued:
“The red light vision of being a lifelong bachelor had come to me in a greenlight wet dream. It was a spiritual sign, a message to surrender, to quit trying so intentionally to find the perfect woman for me, and, rather, concede to the natural selection process of finding her, her finding me, or not.”
After the wet dream, he “quit looking for her.” A few months later, Camila came into his life:
“Three months later, I met Camila. Twenty years later, she’s still the only woman I’ve ever wanted to take on a date, sleep with, or wake up next to.”
That part is sweet… But we want to know: Did Matthew ever tell her about this dream? Or is she finding out about it now? We need her reaction to this wild AF wet dream! LOLz!
As you may know, the longtime couple met at the West Hollywood nightclub Hyde in 2006. They went on to welcome son Levi in 2008, daughter Vida in 2010, and son Livingston in 2012. The same year Matthew and Camila had their third child, they got married. The True Detective star later revealed his eldest son, then four, convinced him to marry the model.
Matthew recalled on the Modern Wisdom podcast in September that Levi asked why the two didn’t share the same last name:
“I’m going through my head, ‘You’re f**king 4, dude.’ I sat there. I was like, ‘It’s a great question, but I mean, we’re not married. When you get married, you switch your name.’”
When his son asked if he was “scared” to commit, the dad admitted he was. Eventually, Matthew tied the knot with Camila after seeking advice from a pastor and other “elder men” who were “married for decades.”
Good for him. It all worked out in the end. What are your reactions to the dream? Let us know!
