Miguel, Adam Levine, and Carrie Underwood performed tonight at the late George Michael’s induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as part of the class of 2023 at tonight’s ceremony in Cleveland. Miguel performed “Careless Whisper” with E Street Band member Jake Clemons on saxophone. Levine performed “Faith,” while Underwood closed out the segment with a cover of “One More Try” at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
Ahead of the performance, Michael was inducted into the Rock Hall by his childhood friend and other half of Wham! Andrew Ridgeley. Ridgeley said: “We achieved as Wham! our burning boyhood ambition…Wham! Was the realization of everything I had ever aspired to, and the realization for George that stretching before him along a gilded and infinite path lay his destiny.”
Michael posthumously entered the Rock Hall in his first year of nomination. This year’s other inductees were Kate Bush, Missy Elliott, Rage Against the Machine, Sheryl Crow, the Spinners, and Willie Nelson. Hip-hop legend DJ Kool Herc and the guitarist Link Wray were honored with Musical Influence Awards, while Chaka Khan, Al Kooper, and Elton John’s songwriter Bernie Taupin took home Musical Excellence Awards. Don Cornelius, the late creator of Soul Train, posthumously received the Ahmet Ertegun Award.
