The band’s 2024 tour, which was canceled just days before kick-off, was rendered unfeasible by low ticket sales, which Prass attributes to Hill’s reputation as an unpunctual performer and a delay in signing a deal with Live Nation Entertainment, leaving little time for promotion. At the time of the cancellation, Hill blamed the media’s “penchant for sensationalism and clickbait headlines” for poor sales.

The lawsuit follows the release of Pras’ song “Bar Mitzfa” in August, which appeared to be directed at Hill. Released exclusively via TMZ, the track addresses many of the topics the lawsuit is working on.

In a statement shared with Pitchfork, Ms. Lauryn Hill pushed back on Pras’ allegations.

It is necessary to present some clarity and facts. I have kept quiet and stepped forward because I understand that Prass has been under duress because of his legal battle and that this is likely affecting his judgment, state of mind and character.

Fact #1: This baseless claim by Leek is full of false claims and unsubstantiated attacks. It especially leaves out that he overpaid for the last tour and failed to repay the substantial loans I made as a goodwill gesture. Last year’s tour was organized to celebrate 25th anniversary of the album The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. It was being planned whether or not the Fugees were involved.

Fact #2: The tour was expanded to include the Fugees because I found out Prass was in trouble and would need money for his legal defense.

Fact #3: Prass was given a $3 million advance for the tour, which he said was to pay his legal fees. Wyclef and Myself delayed our full advance to make sure he had what he needed and was good to go. I covered most of the tour expenses as most of the tour advance went to Pras. A contract was signed to ensure the return of his advance payment. Pras has not returned his advance payment and is currently in breach of this agreement.

Fact #4. Since my tour, band, production and arrangement were already happening, the Fugees used this same production. I covered most of the costs myself, produced the show, put together the entire set (with Wyclef for the Fugees and Wyclef’s set) : Leek basically had to show up and give a speech.

Fact #5: During the last tour Pras thanked me for “saving his life” (I have the receipts).

Fact #6: I’m not in the business of kicking anyone, especially when they’re down, which is why I haven’t responded to this. leads to Fact #7, which probably should have been Fact #1…

Fact #7. I was not in Pras’s life when he decided to make the unfortunate decision that led to his current legal problems. I did not advise him to make that decision and am therefore in no way responsible for his decision and its consequences, although I took it upon myself to help. Despite his attacks, I still sympathize and hope things work out for him.

Sincerely, MHL
