Warning! Spoilers ahead for Transformers #12
Optimus Prime may be heading down a dark path in the Energon universe, as Skybound’s smash-hit first year Transformer Formally draws a close. Prime even goes so far as to kill a major Decepticon at the end of the current story arc, which could signal a dark turn for the Autobot leader.
Transformer #12 – Written by Daniel Warren Johnson, with art by George Coron – Optimus Prime tackles the threat of Shockwave once and for all, as Enraged, Prime crushes Shockwave’s head, removing the Decepticons from the picture for good.
It’s a huge moment for Prime, which has been watching ever since Witwicky, a Prime sparkplug complicated by “memory” sacrificed himself into the Autobot leader’s spark. This resulted in Prime receiving a supercharge of power Transformer #6, but the result is that he apparently took some of Sparky’s memories with him.

of Skybound Transformer The series provided one of the best portrayals of Optimus Prime ever, taking the Autobot leader back to his roots as a leader who favored compassion for the utter destruction of his enemies. This is why Shockwave’s death is such a shock, as Prime is pushed to the brink and seemingly sees no resolution to his conflict with the Decepticon ruler of Cybertron. Although Prime’s act is brutal and unforgiving, it may be the result of sparkplug Witwicky being deposited into his spark, the equivalent of Transformers’ soul.
Prime’s visions seem to be twisted versions of Sparky’s memories, as readers see things like Prime holding Sparky’s son Spike as a baby. The memory is then lost, as Prime witnesses the child Spike somehow infecting him with abominable circuitry, something Prime sees while subduing the shockwave. This obviously causes Prime to lose it and crush Shockwave’s headAs Prime’s eyes turn from their natural blue hue to purple. Prime later seems shocked at his own actions, surprised that he went as far as he did.

new Transformer The body count is high, but Shockwave’s demise promises to be a game-changer For Energon Universe. Whatever is going on with Optimus Prime, it will almost certainly lead to more earth-shattering stories in its pages Transformer. Given that Megatron is still waiting to make his move outside of the Energon Universe, he’ll have to approach Optimus Prime more cautiously, as the Autobot leader may be taking no prisoners on the front pages.
