the panther announced Power Trip: as openers for their upcoming 2025 European tour and Power Trip: the fans are furious.
Fans’ anger stems from recent comments Power Trip: vocalist Riley Gayle in two separate interviews the panther and: A super common ritual vocalist Phil Anselmo. They were the first Gail:from an interview in 2017 Toilet Ov Hell Podcast:where? Gail: said he didn’t tour A super common ritual because of AnselmoViews expressed at the 2016 Dimebash event, namely shouting “white power” alongside “Sieg Heil” and trying to later pass it off as a joke.
“We have already done it. A super common ritual asked us to go out… It was difficult, it was difficult, but you know what? It was one of those things where you know it was just a year ago Phil: sage was cured by the cam cam cam. And one of the boys Pig destroyer – I think it was so Blake: — he plays in the band Phil:and he was there and kind of explained what Phil: he was actually being sarcastic, he was trying to appeal to pretenders.
“But you know what? He did do some things… He did some things that made us very uncomfortable. And I didn’t want to go out there and feel like I had to be the caretaker of it. Phil Anselmo about his policy. And I certainly didn’t want to go out there and end up disagreeing and then tour with a band that hates us for our politics for the next few months. It was a really hard thing to turn down. I would like to see what Phil: truly human-like.
“I believe he’s probably a good person at the end of the day and we went on tour God of the eye and: Jimmy Bauer is a pretty nice guy. So that was one of those things where we want to… It was more about his fans kind of following him. Do we want this kind of lower income, some trailer junk metal dudes who just fan Phil Anselmodo we want them to get to know our group and then maybe associate themselves with a scene or a group of people that we don’t necessarily agree with?’
“So it was tough. I would love to have the opportunity to play with him Phil: and know him as a man. But doing a five-week tour with a guy who’s done and said some questionable things that we don’t agree with was something that we just kind of said wasn’t worth it. It wasn’t worth the risk. We didn’t need the tour as it would have been. Power Trip: there was no need to go on a trip back A super common ritual“.
Gail: later repeated those same sentiments in an interview with The Chicago Tribune In 2018, saying: “We rejected a A super common ritual tour, mainly because I don’t want to be tied down Phil Anselmo. I didn’t know him personally, but I know he got in trouble for saying a lot of stupid s— (celebrating “white supremacy” on stage, which he later apologized for). I didn’t want to be in a position to defend it. It depends on what kind of band we want to be associated with, as far as people, as far as musical anything.”
Power Trip: has not commented or responded to fan backlash. Gail: died in 2020 Power Trip: continued thereafter Runaway vocalist Seth Gilmore As of 2023.
