Verve Records has announced a new album by the late jazz trumpeter Roy Hargrove. the album Grande-Terreis credited to Roy Hargrove’s Crisol ensemble and is due out on October 18th. Listen to the new track “Priorities” below.
Roy Hargrove’s Crisol released just one studio album; Likeduring the lifetime of the leaders of the title group. It earned Hargrove and the band a 1998 Grammy Award for Best Latin Jazz Performance.
The award-winning recording featured trumpeter and flugelhorn Hargrove; trombonist Frank Lacey; soprano and tenor saxophonist David Sanchez; alto and soprano saxophonist Gary Bartz; bassist John Benitez; drummers Miguel “Anga” Diaz and Jose Luis “Changuito” Quintana; drummer Horacio “El Negro” Hernandez; guitarist Russell Malone; and pianist Chucho Valdes.
Most of the musicians then returned to the studio Like to create what is now being released as Grande-Terre. Returning players for the new album are Roy Hargrove, Frank Lacey, Miguel “Anga” Diaz and Jose Luis “Changuito” Quintana. New additions to the ensemble include: alto saxophonist Sherman Irby; tenor saxophonist Jacques Schwartz-Barth; pianists Gabriel Hernandez and Larry Willis; guitarist Ed Cherry; bassist Gerald Cannon; drummer and vocalist Julio Barreto; and drummer Willie Jones.
