We’ve officially passed the audition round for this season of So You Think You Can Dance, but that doesn’t mean the hard part is over. The 35 dancers who made it through the auditions now had to face the real test. the choreographic circle.

And while normally this round might last a few days to whittle down the groups, this year it’s different. Alison Holker revealed that this season’s choreography round will last just one day and will see 35 become 10!

So in case you missed last night’s episode, we’re here to recap all the best dances and drama, as well as which 10 talented dancers made it to the next round.

First Cut: From 35 to 16:

For the choreography round, the judges were joined by: iconic Los Angeles choreographer Galen Hookswho has previously worked with Justin Bieber, Britney Spears, Miley Cyrus and Jennifer Lopez. For the first round of cuts, Galen led the dancers through an intense jazz routine.

The dancers began to perform in groups of five and it quickly became clear that the judges were not playing. Of the top five, only one dancer made it through. Easton Maggiarditi— excellent from the first day of auditions.

From the second group, Easton was joined by: Ali Deutscher and: Mariah Hawkinsalong with: Julian Carmolingaand: Roman Nevinciani. From the third group, Madison Rouge Alvarado and: Olivia Albocher move forward together Anthony Curleywho Judge Maxim said already looked like the “favourite”. In the fourth group, Dakayla Wilson, Avery Gayand: Braylon Browner managed to pass. The last group struggles a little and alone Jaylin Sanders and: Andrew Park passed and were warned by the judges not to disappoint in the duets.

Second part: From 16 to the final 10

After the first part it was time for teamwork and the judges had the chance to see how the dancers performed in pairs. Galen tells Kat Deeley that it’s an opportunity for the dancers to show “everything they can do” (our favorite kind of choreo).

After the first two couples performed in front of the judges, Maksym Chmerkovskiy spoke, saying he felt frustrated that there was not enough partner work, resulting in a lack of emotional connection between the dancers. But Alison disagreed, saying the dancers had “broken it”.

The second and third groups performed well, although the judges expressed some concern that the choreography didn’t seem to come as naturally to Jaylin, who admitted in the first round that he struggled with not having practiced jazz or contemporary as extensively. In the final group, it was Roman who seemed to be struggling, with Alison saying he wasn’t as “solid” as she’d hoped.

After all 16 dancers had a chance to perform, it was time for debriefing. Cat called the top eight dancers over to hear their scores, and it was a landslide…all: eight headed for the top 10.

But in case your math is not math, it only means two: of the dancers from the second group fall into the final 10. In the end, only Jaylin and Avery make it, and it’s an emotional, tearful moment.

And with that, we have our top 10. Olivia:, Madison:, Braylon, Anthony, Avery:, Mariah:, Easton, Novel:, jaylin, and: Dakaila:.

But there’s always another twist this season of “SYTYCD,” and in this case, there were actually two. It was first announced that for the first time everall 10 dancers will not only dance together, but also live together as they go through the competition.

The final twist? Joining the judges at the table will be “Dance Moms” and “Dancing with the Stars” alum Jojo Siwa. So buckle up folks, we’re pretty sure this season is going to be crazy.
