Robbie Williams may be remembered for many things, such as his numerous awards, numerous pop hits in the UK, and his legacy as a member of a pop duo. Take thatbut honestly his lasting legacy in my mind is the terrifying 2000 music video for “Rock DJ” where he strips down and then proceeds to rip his flesh and become raw blood and muscle. That video lives on in my head rent and bothered me at a young age like no metal band ever did.So maybe it’s vaguely fitting that he’s teaming up Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi for Williams’ upcoming album.
Williams’ drummer and musical director Carl Brazil announced the news in an interview with “The”. A discussion of percussion instruments podcast (which transcribed Blabbermouth): “Actually one of the tracks. [Robbie]made a track called “missile” with Tony Iommi“, said Brazil, “which is very random. It’s great. It’s a rocker, and it’s really, really cool. It’s kind of… I’ll let you hear it. But yeah Tony:he did his thing on it, there are some great collaborations on this record. [SUPERGRASS‘s] Gaz Coombes it’s there.”
“It’s mostly a guitar record,” Brazil said, going on about Robbie Williams’ upcoming record, “a little bit of a throwback to his old ’90s sound, but mixed in with a little bit of modern pop, too. Let’s face it. [Robbie] can do what he wants, can’t he?” I guess so, but I personally hope that what he wants involves holding on to his own skin.
