True Beauty is a 2020 Korean drama, starring Mun Ka-Young, Cha Eun-Woo, and Hwang In-Yeop. The series includes a love triangle but the main storyline revolves around Ka-Young’s Im Ju-Kyung. She believes she is not pretty like girls of her age and thus learns how to put on flawless makeup.
She hides her real face from the outer world, especially from her high schoolmates. However, Lee Soo-Ho (Eun-Woo) knows the truth and helps her keep her real face hidden from other students. The two develop feelings for each other. In-Yeop plays Han Seo-Joon who is Soo-Ho’s best friend-turned-foe and likes Ju-Kyung.
Extraordinary You is a high-school romance drama, starring many popular actors. It revolves around a high school student, Eun Dan-O, who suffers from a heart condition. Despite other students being mean to her, she believes she is the heroine of her story. However, she soon realizes that they live in a comic world and she’s a side character.
In order to achieve the main character’s position, she tries to change the story and find a student who can make her heart flutter. She finds another side character and names him Ha-Roo (Rowoon). The complicated storyline also includes a love triangle featuring Lee Jae-Wook as Baek Kyung. Extraordinary You also stars Lee Na-Eun, Jung Gun-Joo, Kim Young-Dae, and Lee Tae-Ri.
Boys Over Flowers
Lee Min-Ho with a strange haircut stars in another Netflix high-school romance K-drama, Boys Over Flowers. The 2009 series became a craze in that year for style and fashion. It has been remade in several languages and has also been turned into animation.
The story is about a bright girl from a poor family who gets involved with the four richest boys in an elite high school. While she falls in love with one of them, another boy falls for her. The cast includes Ku Hye-Seon, Kim Hyun-Joong, Kim Beom, Kim Jun, and Kim So-eun.
Love Alarm is the 2019 high-school romance drama that centers around a mobile app that rings when one or more people like you within a 10-meter radius. Kim Jo-Jo (Kim So-Hyun) is a bright student who downloads the app. It leads her to best friends Lee Hye-Young (Jung Ga-Ram) and Hwang Sun-Oh (Song Kang).
Hye-Young likes Jo-Jo, but things get complicated when Sun-Oh tries to find out if Hye-Young truly likes her. So, Sun-Oh kisses Jo-Jo. This Lee Na-Jeong directorial was My Demon actor’s first big hit K-drama.
Lee Min-Ho returned in 2013 with another high-school romance K-drama, The Heirs (titled The Inheritors on Netflix). In it, he plays a rich yet neglected kid who falls for a girl from a poor family. With the help of Kim Tan’s (Min-Ho) family, Cha Eun-Sang (Park Shin-Hye) enrolls in an elite high school.
The school’s bully Choi Young-Do (Kim Woo-Bin) tries to target Eun-Sang but Kim Tan always protects her. Young-Do eventually falls for Eun-Sang, leading to a love triangle. Kim Tan also has an admirer Rachel Yoo (Kim Ji-Won), a rich brat who creates problems for Eun-Sang. The Heirs also stars Kang Min-Hyuk, Choi Jin-Hyuk, Kang Ha-Neul, Krystal, and Park Hyung-Sik.
