This X-Men/He-Man fanart calls for a new “amalgam” story

Marvel Comics is no stranger to crossovers with other publishers, primarily DC Comics. Indeed, one crossover stands above the rest as the greatest ever to come from one DC/Marvel Collaboration: The Amalgam Universe. In that storyline, the two universes not only crossed paths with each other in a ‘battle-royale’-type story (well, it started that way, but quickly evolved), it actually brought Marvel and DC characters together.

Amalgam Universe is how fans got some great mashups like Wolverine and Batman (Dark Claw). Joker and Sabretooth (Hyena)and The Flash and Ghost Rider (Speed Demons). And now, just like Marvel did with DC, there needs to be a new “amalgam” crossover, only this time, it needs to be with He-Man and the Masters of the Universe – and this fanart proves it.

There was a time when an X-Men/He-Man crossover could be canon

Marvel Comics’ Masters of the Universe (1986-1988)

He-Man holds his sword to wield his power.

Under the Star Comics imprint, Marvel Comics published Masters of the Universe comics from 1986 to 1988, and during that time, there could have been a crossover with the X-Men, just as fans are seeing in this fanart – and that canon storyline would have been something like an amalgam universe. Should have, but the difference is, there won’t be any collaborations or business deals behind the scenes, Marvel could have done just that. Unfortunately, time has passed for this to be a possibility now, but the Marvel/DC collaboration ensures that nothing is impossible.

It would be incredibly cool to see an actual comic book series featuring these though X-Men/He-Man Mashup characters, it’s sadly a bit of a long shot, and fans shouldn’t hold their breath. However, even without an overarching story context, the images displayed in this “Mutants of the Universe” crossover fanart are better than nothing. The X-Men And He-Man and the Masters of the Universe could ever be expected.
