Believe me when I say DC Comics Planned for this fall might be the best thing to happen to our favorite heroes in a long time, long Between dramatic time warps and a brand new universe, there’s going to be something for everyone

It’s only been a few weeks since the publisher made its exciting debut The new DC All In initiativeBut fans got a real good look What at DC Comics? Brewed at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. I had the privilege of covering the convention this year and let me tell you: I’m hyped for DC All In and I guarantee you will be too.

DC All In? Absolute universe? What’s going on?

Like many DC Comics fans, I’ve heard rumors about something called the Ultimate Universe for the better part of a year. But it wasn’t until DC Comics released an official video announcement that we finally got specific details about the publisher’s massive undertaking for the Absolute Universe and DC All In. DC All In is led by Joshua Williamson and Scott Snyder, who appear in the video and introduced fans to the latest chapter in the DC Universe.

Williamson revealed the new initiative came out of DC’s summer event supreme power And officially begins DC All In Special #1. Williamson remained tight-lipped on details, though he did reveal that the Darkside played a key role in the upcoming storyline. Snyder followed this up by saying that Justice League and Darkseid will clash “Shape the DC Universe for a momentBut this was the biggest and most exciting part of the announcement Confirmation of DC’s new Ultimate Universe.

Snyder kept quiet when discussing the ultimate universe, but commented that it was going to be a world that would be “predicated on .Darkseid power“Similarly based on the Prime Universe”superman power” The Ultimate Universe is a world where the DC heroes fans know and love exist, but lack many of the creature comforts of their mainline counterparts. Superman has no family. However, Batman lacks the resources and privileges he usually has. It was an intriguing concept and I couldn’t wait to learn more about it when I traveled to San Diego for Comic-Con.

DC Comics creators are over hyped

Nothing beats attending DC for my Comic-Con experience supreme power The panel consisted of hearing from some of my favorite authors and artists and peeking at books like new ones Justice League Unlimited series, I was ready to learn everything I could from my first in-person interview. green lantern Written by Jeremy Adams My first interviewee, and while he’s not going anywhere for the foreseeable future, he had a few things to say about the future of Green Lantern. Civil Corps special

Jeremy Adams: …one shot is basically going to end the Green Lantern story as I said. That doesn’t mean I’m off the books, at least I know. But this means that by the end of it, the status quo of the Green Lanterns will change. We will be at a new crossroads in certain ways.

It’s always great to hear from Jeremy and it was even Great to hear from Mark Waid. Unfortunately, I had too many questions for him (given that he’s written more than a handful of books for DC at this point). But I was able to glean some valuable insight into the upcoming Justice League Unlimited series. It was also around this interview I started asking what DC All In meant to each individual creator working on the initiative.

Mark Waid: It just means that there’s a tension to it. And I know that Hollywood answer sounds like bull, but I mean it. I have been very lucky. I’ve been able to create a corner of the DC Universe in the last few years, where I can have fun and where I don’t feel that everything is editorially forced or that it seems that everything is scary and dark, and things seem to have worked out pretty well. The thought was that we should have more fun with these books. Green Lantern, Flash, whatever, shouldn’t be our experience of joy. The characters should shine and we should get back to the essence of who these characters are.

Of course, I also needed to fulfill my duties as a comics journalist and learn something about the ultimate universe. Thanks, I got it Talk to Jason AaronThe author is reinventing Man of Steel in the future The ultimate superman. Jason was great to talk to, not just because he’s an absolute sweetheart, but Because he has really explained the details of the Absolute Universe And he describes the painstaking care he and other creators put into these titles.

Jason Aaron: I struggle to talk about this because I’m so excited to talk about it, and I don’t want to give away all the secrets. But everything matches. Like I talked about in the panel when we showed the figure of Superman and his costume. The costume is very different in many ways, parts of it shine. His hair is long, his cape looks very, very different. All these things are not just cosmetic preferences. There is a reason the cape looks like that. I’ll give you a tidbit I’ll say: look at the cape. It’s got a gradient texture. He is literally wearing the dust of Krypton.

DC All In, post reflected on San Diego Comic-Con

JUSTICE LEAGUE UNLIMITED 1 Sampier Variant Cover: DC superheroes rush towards the audience, including Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Cyborg, Nightwing, Green Lantern and more

The five days I spent at San Diego Comic-Con were the most exhausting of my life. But when the experience was over, I was still in awe of hearing from some of DC Comics’ brightest stars. They were all very confident and excited about DC being all in, whether they were reviving a character for the Ultimate Universe or taking a hero from the Prime Universe in a new direction. Everyone was excited about this new direction for the DC Universe, including new god’ Ram V.

Ram V: I think in general, the thing that excites me most about All In is the idea that it’s no longer just characters from the past, you know, 5-10 years. If you look at the JSA announcement, if you look at the Green Lantern story, if you look at the Absolute Universe, it seems like all the DC characters, big and small, are coming to this event. And that sounds very exciting to me.

I have been reading comics for the better part of my life. And as someone who was disappointed by the massive changes to the New 52 and its many inconsistencies, I’m always hesitant to hear about the massive undertaking. but The more I hear from these DC Comics creators, the more I realize this isn’t a marketing stunt Or try to attract new readers. It was a passion project on a scale that had never been seen before and no one was sold on the idea Better than Joshua Williamson.

Joshua Williamson: So the idea was “If we’re going to do this, it can’t seem like they’re separate. It’s a story.” right? And then we start talking about all of us, like “we’re all in this together.” And we start saying this all the time. We all say it and mean it from top to bottom. It was not an initiative. It was not a reboot. It was not a relaunch. It was a moment where we could say “we’re all in this together.”

I’m not going to lie, I was pretty excited to talk to these creators in person and a lot of my excitement was probably fueled by the energy of San Diego Comic-Con (it was my first time there, after all) but more than a month later, I’m still that feeling excited I was doing my best to be cautiously optimistic about DC All In, but now that I know how much passion and planning went into this event, I really think DC Comics is about giving fans something special.

I can’t wait to see what else DC Comics has planned

Batman and Absolute Batman Split Flipbook DC All in Special

If I walked away from San Diego Comic-Con learning anything this year, it’s that the creators involved with DC All In have big plans. We’ve only seen a small fraction of what’s coming down the pipeline. But after seeing everything DC has released and talking to these amazing creators, I’m more hyped than I have been for DC in a while. I think everyone who takes a chance DC Comics These comic creators are going to be pleasantly surprised over the next few months as they go ‘all in’ with this exciting new endeavor.
